First Christmas
As I mentioned, we traveled to New Jersey for the holidays and we celebrated the twins' first Christmas. The week before Christmas I got to go dress shopping with Cailin to find her wedding dress! Needless to say there will not be any pictures posted of that JUST YET! The rest of the week was spent doing lots of last minute shopping AND the twins went sledding for the first time!!
Christmas eve and day were mostly spent over at the Donovan's and the Ruseks were able to join us so we could spend the holidays with both sets of grandparents which was wonderful. It was very helpful to have two babies - one for each grandma for these occasions! Aunt Cailin got to meet the twins for the first time as well - she was excellent at doing the football hold on who ever needed a little walk around the house to settle down.
The week after Christmas we spent a lot of time trading off between houses - Steve's older brother and sister and their families were visiting and the twins were able to meet their cousins for the first time! On this trip, Sam and Emma seemed the most interested in the two little, but it was fun to see all SEVEN of the Rusek grandchildren together. Steve and I also had the babies Christened at Saint James church in Basking Ridge. In addition to our immediate families, Steve's aunt and uncle Sarah and Paul as well as my aunt and uncle Lois and Dave also joined us. All four of our sibilings are the godparents - Jen and Chris are Adelaide's and Cailin and Dave are Peter's. Steve and I hosted a lunch after the ceremony. One of the more entertaining highlights from this day was when cousin Jack punched the decon during the ceremony because he told Jack he was too young to help out. Hilarious!
We celebrated new years in a big way really - we went to Hoboken and spent the night with my sister and Steve C. and Ray, our high school friend. The babies celebrated at home in Basking Ridge with my parents! New Years Day followed with more family gatherings, this time over at the Ruseks with the Donovan's joining. Again, another great reason to have two babies for two grandmothers!
Steve and I returned to San Francisco on January 5th. Both flights with the babies went fantastically. When approaching the return trip, it was really not the flight that was making me nervous at all - it was heading back to SF to be with the babies alone with no helpers for the first time. Also, it was very sad for the babies to be leaving all of these wonderful grandparents and aunts and uncles who love them so very much.
